How to participate

Requirements

  • you're between 5 and 16 years of age
  • you're completely healthy and did not have any operations on the lower limbs.

Process

Three appointments, each 1.5 years apart, during which an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) lasting about 1 hour and a motion analysis (around 2 hours) will be conducted.

MRI:
You lie in a large tube that creates an image of the inside of the body. It is important not to have any metallic objects on you and to remain completely still during the scan. You will receive ear protection to reduce the noise, and you can stop the scan at any time by pressing a buzzer. Unlike other imaging techniques such as CT or X-ray, an MRI does not use harmful radiation.

Location: MedUni Vienna | Lazarettgasse 14, 1090 Vienna

Motion Analysis:
Reflective styrofoam balls (markers) are attached to the body, and cameras record the movement of these markers in space. You will perform various movements such as walking, running, jumping, etc. Electrodes measure muscle activity, and you will also walk over a force plate that measures ground reaction forces. Using this data, researchers can model and calculate the loads acting inside the body—for example, in the hip joint and on the thigh bones.

Location: ISBW Gait Lab | Auf der Schmelz 6a, 1150 Vienna

Compensation
€300 in total.
€50 after the first appointment, €100 after the second, and €150 after the third.

Further Information
With the consent of the child and the parents, a consent form will be signed. Participation in the study can be withdrawn at any time and without providing a reason.

Registration
Non-binding registration is possible directly via the Online registration form.
